Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, is one of the most famous men in the world. As the spouse of Queen Elizabeth II, for over sixty years no he has served and symbolised the British monarchy and is the longest-serving consort of a reigning British monarch. Alongside with The Queen, together their substantial efforts to portray the royal family as an unchanging institution have not been in vain, particularly in a world that has vastly changed in so many ways since Elizabeth succeeded in 1952. Although now, quite the confident recognisable Prince, an opposite portrayal of his former self, and what once was his former life. A life that had been moulded by war, tragedies, heartbreak, misfortunes, and disregarded.  His successful marriage, established family and triumphs in his works, have become a reward, and have somewhat made up for his earlier struggles.


Phillip was the only son of the five children of Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg. He was born on the Greek island of Corfu on 10 June 1921, and was born as Prince of Greece and Denmark, though now recognised as British, at the time he was also sixth in line to the Greek throne. Phillip did however have British ties, as his maternal grandfather Prince Louis Mountbatten was a naturalised British citizen. He also related to Queen Victoria.
